Pre-Workshop Instructions

Dear Participants

RE: BioBox Workshop, Life Sciences Virtual Grid Symposium
pre-conference workshop, 2nd April 2004 Friday
-----------------------------------------------
Please be reminded that the pre-symposium programme comprising
technical workshops and a 'live' Access Grid session with the
University of Manchester on the MyGrid project will be held on
2 April 2004 (Friday) at the Institute for Infocomm Research
(21 Heng Mui Keng Terrace, Singapore 119613).
http://www.ngp.org.sg/lsvgc/

The BioBox workshop which you have signed up for will
begin at 1.30pm. Registrations open at 1pm.

Materials for the BioBox Workshop are to be found in
http://www.apbionet.org/apbiogrid/apbiobox/lsvgcApr04/index.shtml
They will be progressively updated as we are still nailing down
some set-up issues at the I2R venue.

A goodie bag sponsored by SCS Ltd NGPP's Network Operations
Centre contractors will be given free to all participants.
Inside, there will be a CDRom containing the APBioBox Software,
funded by the Canadian IDRC (idrc.ca). Those who can't wait can
go to http://www.apbionet.org/apbiogrid/apbiobox/
If not, please bring your CDRom Drive for installing BioBox and
LAN card+cable for network connectivity at the I2R venue
for the hands-on.

Please be prepared for the tutorial-demo-hands-on session
by bringing your own notebook preinstalled with Redhat 9 (server)
if you so wish. If not, you can follow the demo and tutorials.

If you are planning on the hands-on, please make sure you have
your webbrowser with JDK and Java Webstart on your machine
for best effect (needed for the KOOPlite workflow integration
system).

If you are unable to come for some reason, but still wish to
join in, we can bring you into the conference remotely using
a Java web audioconferencing system with ppt and shared
applications. Please register with tinwee@bic.nus.edu.sg.
You require a Windows OS, with Internet Explorer with speaker
for following the lectures, and a microphone (headset preferable)
if you wish to ask questions (text chat also possible as an alternative)
Test out your system at http://emeet.nus.edu.sg/

Trainers include:
Tan Tin Wee (chief coordinator) Dept of Biochem NUS and APBioNet
Ong Guan Sin (BioBox, Globus Grid) SCS Ltd and Network Manager, NGPP
Maddie Wong (Sun BioClusterGrid talk and demo) Sun APSTC
Gilbert Thomas (Sun BioClusterGrid talk and demo) Sun APSTC
Vinodh (KOOPLite talk and demo) KOOPrime Pte Ltd
